So, Dr. Owen Muir MD and Dr. Carlene MacMillan MD met at a psychiatry conference. Specifically, at Disney World.
The two had a whirlwind romance. Furthermore, they endured shared medical residencies in two different cities. For this reason, the exhausted medical couple made it a point to plan a low stress wedding day.
By the same token, the two wanted to celebrate their new life together in Williamsburg.
Because of this, they set out to enjoy a small, spontaneous ceremony. We all walked around the park until a shady spot became available. Guests even hummed an impromptu wedding march. This was followed by a reception for eight.
Nevertheless, the intimate dinner included exquisite dining. The spot was PerSe. Read the breakdown of events below.
Pre-Ceremony:
Althogether Now! The wedding party got ready in a converted Catholic church. As the bride and groom are both atheists, this was the closest they would come to a church.
For starters, the groom wore a traditional Scottish kilt in family tartan, purchased in Scotland when he was a teenager. Nonetheless, the bride, in shared Scottish heritage, opted for an Alexander McQueen dress as well as a signature clutch.
In addition, after their first look, the bride changed from her glitter soled heels into Chuck Taylors to walk around. The wedding party then strolled together to the East River Ferry which took them to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
And prior to departing for the Ferry, we stopped for iced coffee. Also, we checked out some sidewalk free-cycling.
Ceremony:
So, the ceremony took place in Brooklyn Bridge Park and was officiated by the brother-in-law. Similarly, it opened with the Bride’s father leading a mindfulness exercise on gratitude using a singing bowl.
Then they participated in a Scottish hand-fasting ceremony. This is where the phrase ‘tying the knot’ comes from. It was coupled with a custom rope in family tartan.
And then groom read a passage from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on improbable connections. The bride then read Dorothy Parker poem “The Passionate Freudian to his Love,” as a nod to the couple’s shared psychiatric professions. The ceremony concluded with a ring exchange.
Reception:
A key point is that the reception took place in the private room of Per Se as guests enjoyed a tasting menu. And it was even followed by a tour of the kitchen.
After all, it was an intimate affair. And the day after the wedding, the couple held an open house at their new home in Brooklyn.
