5 Cherry Blossom Shoot Ideas for April

Five approaches to shooting portraits at cherry blossom time.

Written and Shot by Location Photographer Angela Cappetta with Nikon DSLR for a Private Client.

Cherry blossom shoot ideas for April depend on where in the world you live. Some are happening right now. Others, not for a few weeks. However, no matter where in the world you call home, here are some sure fire ways for you to enjoy your cherry blossom sessions. We know there are a lot of them going on and we love it.

  1. Make it rain! Go for it. Stand your model or client under a low brand and jiggle. But not too hard. You only need a few falling flowers to create some mothin and creat a really lovely moment for your client. Let yourself have a once in a lifetime, pink, petal shower.
  2. Get abstract. Use some lens flare and/or a flash and really have fun with it. As shown in this top down angle photo, we asked our model to sit in a sprinkling of petals. Among the dapples of light, we employed a little bit of light flash to make it look surprising. So it isn't just a conventional look at flowers. This black satin slip and hands on her head is a bit of  a surprise for the viewer. .
  3. Cherry Blossom Portrait Shoot
    1. Wear coordinating wardrobe. Do a mood board with your team and get a real look nailed down. Keep the colors and theme in mind and really enjoy the pink. A healthy obsession with seasonal blooms is never a bad thing. Case in point: this shoot at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. If you haven’t seen the cherry blossoms yet, it is a can’t miss event. And they’re incredible. Everyone needs to visit them at least once to experience their glory.
  4. Run through the petals! This one is self explanatory.

Special thanks to our outstanding wardrobe department who orchestrated all the garment styling for this shoot.
