What is a studio visit? A studio visiting an artist in their studio is a time-honored tradition. Namely, this is a time when an artist invites a collector or curator into their art making space. A studio visit offers an intimate look into the artist’s work and practice. It is a time for the artist to not only sell the work but to sell themselves. Collectors, curators, and even art dealers are there to learn about the concepts behind the work. Even after researching the artist, there will still be background knowledge s visitor may not have. It may be terms the artist uses, However, it may also be influences in their work, or historical context. If you don’t know, the studio visit is the time to ask the artist to explain. this will help both you and the artist get the most out of your visit.
Curated Studio Visits is a brand new idea. How so? Well, it melds various members of the art world. This includes artists, patrons and art professionals. So, each visit explores three different artist’s studios. This offers a great opportunity to learn about art making processes firsthand. Simultaneously, all engage in networking and meeting new people. Furthermore, the aim of the visits is to expand the New York City art world a bit more. But most importantly, the goal is to spotlight as many hard working artists in the area as possible. On offer as well are weekly remote studio visits with artists from everywhere. And these are offered on Instagram only. This offers visitors a sneak peek into an artist’s studio at any time, anywhere.
These studio visits are a Deanna Evans project. She started it to open up the art world by accessing artist’s studio. The epicenter of art making.
