The Coolest Holiday Meal Ever

The Coolest Holiday Meal

The Coolest Holiday Meal, Photography by Angela Cappetta. From vegan to carnivore, there is one sure fire way to please everyone. Make a Hot Pot! What is a Hot Pot you may ask? It is a traditional Chinese celebration meal. When you change the ingredients a little to include a special bbq sauce (sa-cha sauce) and a raw egg it becomes inherently Taiwanese. It is served at the New Year or for special family events. Well, what could be more special than eight of us gathered before we all depart to the four winds for the holiday season. Hot pot by candlelight on a walnut table as the sun goes down. It is almost a dream. Then you taste the food and remember it is very, very real. And you also remember how lucky we all are. "To make your sauce you put a raw egg in a small bowl and add seasonings. Taiwanese BBQ sauce, scallion, cilantro, leeks, soy sauce, chili, garlic etc, until you get it just right" says Michelle Lee. This occurs while a hot pot filled with boiling water is placed on an appliance in the middle of the table. Veggies and minute beef, if you like, are all dropped in. It is cooked in real time before your eyes. The chef then spoons it out of the pot into your small bowl with the sauce in it. You eat, sup and dine. So, Micelle has officially turned me into a hot pot convert. And I love it! I am never, ever going back. Life without it is far too upsetting to imagine. I hope you enjoy this portfolio of a hot pot among friends. I have been enjoying photographing meal preps lately at people's houses. It has been so much fun. In like fashion, these photos focus on the food only. You see, I want you to be super jealous.Coolest Holiday Meal: Hot Pot photographed by NYC photographer Angela Cappetta.Coolest Holiday Meal: Table for eight set for a Hot Pot photographed by NYC photographer Angela Cappetta.Coolest Holiday Meal: Veggies for a Hot Pot photographed by NYC photographer Angela Cappetta.
