I reviewed 289 photography studios. These are the 4 I chose.

By Angela Cappetta

I have not been paid for any of these reviews. This is my honest to goodness take on the talent pool that’s out there. But a little bit about me first:

  1. Documentary, arty and very professional, Cappetta media offers real film as well as DSLR packages. Additionally, Angela has a cinematography staff on hand ready to shoot video and anything you throw at her. She has shot events all over the world.

  2. About Angela. She’s been exhibiting and shooting all over the world for her entire a career. She’s been sent on assignment for Wired, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Details, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times Magazine, Refinery29, The London Times Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Vogue, and many others. Her advertising clients include Arnold Worldwide, BBDO, Havas, Saatchi and Fallon. Furthermore, she is a regular contributor to the behind-the-scenes coverage of New York Fashion Week.

  3. Cappetta’s photography offers a unique blend of highly intimate, candid, poignant and sometimes humorous views of the human condition. Her photographs are in museums and private collections worldwide; she has exhibited in numerous national and international venues.

  4. Her team has received numerous awards and recognitions, including an NYFA photo fellowship, a VCCA residency and three MacDowell Fellowships. Her first book is in development with L’Artiere Edizioni in Italy.

So let's get started. Here are the 4 studios I reviewed

Resonance Vision

https://www.resonancevision.com/

There is a fun boisterousness to this work. I love it.

Although I feel this New Jersey couple still has a way to go before their eye is more mature, in my opinion, they have a lot of potential. I love their wide lens use. This is where a lot of artists go sideways. It is often easy to go overboard with it, But I think they are doing a good job. Meanwhile, they are on the right path with their creative development.

PSPI Studios

https://pspistudios.com/

This studio seems to have strong production house vibes, which means they take their job seriously. I love how down to earth their work is. There is a cool, 80’s vibe to their visuals.

They seem immature visually, but are clearly motivated. Their work has a canned quality that probably appeals to the masses. Too much fish eye lens use, dopey poses in my opinion.  I don’t see a lot of artistic vision. However, that may be fine for what their customers want. I see them providing quantity over quality. That's a good thing for the bottom line. Importantly,  I see people being happy with it. In the end, that’s all that matters. Just because I don’t personally like it, that doesn’t mean their clients don’t love it. The easy-in-easy-out visual approach is probably right for their sector.

Amor In Motion

https://amorinmotion.com/

A cinema studio. Unpretentious and beautiful use of “golden hour” light.

They have a sweet use of sound over imagery that is very rhythmic. I see their clients being very happy with their reels. Furthermore, it looks casual but still high-end. There is a youthful, fun element. A little trendy. Excellent editing. Likewise, I see them doing well if they keep up with their keen eye for detail. It is easy to overdo it and get so bogged in with beautiful details that you lose track of workflow. This is why they are in my reviews of top 5 photography studios in NYC. I wish them tons of luck!

Femina Photos

https://feminaphoto.com/

Their website says they are a full service creative wedding studio.

Women-run!!! Can’t get behind this more. It appears they offer stills, motion and planning. This is highly unusual and so smart. Media companies don’t often offer planning services. It’s kind of amazing that they do this. However, I am just going to write about their media services. It is clear their media department clearly knows what they are doing; they use available light in a lovely way. Nice, well-rounded appreciation of the prime lens.

Admirably, the shooters haven't relied on trends like fish eye dance shots, pans of an empty room or slow motion on the rings. Not too haywire on the techniques. Furthermore, their look is aesthetic, good and clean.  Equally, they seem interested in providing honest to goodness decent photography and video. I can’t emphasize this enough, their color balance and available light use is super pro. This is why they are in my reviews of top 5 photography studios in NYC.
