NYFW Highlights: Model Alliance

Happy Tenth Anniversary Model Alliance!

Flashback! To NYFW Highlights. The night we celebrated @modelallianceny on their 7 year Anniversary❤️ Now it is ten whole years of their good work to bring respect and equality to the forefront.
Sara and the Model Alliance have truly been pivotal in my recovery, because now I know there are other women and men just like me, who want change, and are fighting every day to make it happen. During the discussion we talked about so many issues in this industry, horrifying sexual abuse stories, financial abuse, and body shaming. The Respect Program is the solution.
When has it ever been okay to tell an 18 year old girl to lose weight,
to measure her every day, force juice cleanses on her..except for in this industry? I believe eating disordered behavior is, in many cases, encouraged and applauded in the fashion world and it must stop. [Check out the RESPECT program!] Because I love what I do, and no one deserves that kind of disrespect in any workplace, so why is ours any different? #Time4RESPECT ?: @angelacappetta
What an inspiring night!
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our 7th anniversary. ? Special thanks to those who shared their personal stories of abuse and trauma that nobody should have to endure on the job. Your courage and compassion are truly inspiring. ❤️What's more, thanks to all who have spoken out -- despite very understandable fears -- about unsafe and unfair working conditions in the fashion industry and for calling upon industry leaders to commit to meaningful change by joining the RESPECT Program. You're all so inspiring individually, but together we are unstoppable! ?? The best part about last night was that it was so positive and solutions-focused. We can end abuse in the fashion industry! We have a blueprint for lasting and meaningful change: the RESPECT Program. ?? Thank you all who have contributed to building this game-changing initiative for our industry -- for using your voice, your platform, in service of a vision of dignity and respect for all on the job. You are brilliant. We can do this. #Time4RESPECT ? @angelacappetta
It’s been a game-changing year for the Model Alliance, and we are excited and ready for a productive year ahead. As we embark on our seventh anniversary, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on our progress. In 2018, we worked tirelessly to foster a safe and respectful work environment in the fashion industry. To that end, we were proud to partner with the Council of Fashion Designers of America to create the first private changing areas backstage at New York Fashion Week.David Harbour hugs Karen Elson at a downtown model alliance party in NYC shot by Angela Cappetta with Nikon camera and Lumedyne strobe.
