Boardwalk Empire Wedding Loews Jersey City. When Lee + Sarah brought me in to document their wedding, they had the venue selected. When I learned where it was, I shrieked quietly with delight.
Once upon a time, the Loew’s Jersey City theater was a glistening palace of the talkies. However, time made it into a ruin. So now, it’s restored and landmarked because of it’s historic significance. The building’s opulence (think velvet, gas lamps and solid marble everywhere) transports the visitor. Like that, you are back to the time of nickel picture shows. From red velvet theater chairs, guests sighed as Sarah shimmered down the center aisle in a teal gown, cream roses in her bouquet.
The pipe organ, candy machine and the ghosts of cigarette girls are everywhere. Lee and Sarah embraced the style of the venue. Even Sarah’s dress was historically accurate. She nabbed it for a few bucks at a thrift shop. When they said their vows, they stood on the motorized stage. It lifted them up and down for drama. Naturally, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
One wonders if fictional booze runners from the 20’s would be moved.
