Shooting Real Film - The Feeling of Cuba
A trip to Cuba has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. My parents talked endlessly about how much they loved that part of the world since I was a baby so it was easy to romanticize. When I was little, I had friends whose parents had "escaped" Batista or Castro. The neighborhood I grew up in was very multi ethnic, so lots of Cubans were counted among our numbers. It was the stuff of legends. I tried to enter Cuba once through Mexico but I was too young to know how to maneuver my way in. When President Obama opened the borders, I signed up as fast as I could.Without raconting the minutiae, all I can say is, Cuba is transcendent. It is not easy or relaxing, but it is fascinating. The Cuba we experienced is inextricable from its people. Warm and generous, they are etched into my heart. Resultant of being bathed in their luscious, beautiful Spanish and the country's obsession with courtesy and kindness, this portfolio only expresses a fraction of what I feel.
